Reviews

Just installed about 2 weeks

"Just installed about 2 weeks ago and our water has never been better. Easy to install and use. Would definitely recommend at this point 😊"

Very Satisfied

"I wanted to get four months experience with the US Water System hydrogen peroxide injection system before I submitted a review. I am in the undesirable situation of having approximately 20ppm iron coming from my well system. Under advisement from the technical staff at US Water (very helpful), I have set my pump at 20 SECONDS and the PERCENTAGE is set to 60%. Also 10 minutes back wash and 10 minutes rapid rinse. Regeneration every night. I did obtain the system with a VORTECH Mineral Tank to maximize back wash and rapid rinse performance. Overall, the system works well. My well was drilled 25 years ago and had 3ppm iron. Over the years the iron level rose to 20ppm. AIO Fleck oxygen injection systems, first using BIRM and then KATALOX LIGHT were no longer capable of handling the high iron level. Only observation of note is that there is some brown water in the morning following regeneration, but this clears after a few gallons. Had the same situation with Fleck Valves. I assume this is due to clearing the valve after regeneration. Only downside is that I currently use 2. 5 gallons of hydrogen peroxide each week. So, this is pricey. Going forward, I may consider drilling my well deeper to get into an area of lower iron concentrations. If I had a low iron level, this set-up would be a no brainer. Taste is clearly better than with the AIO systems. The Legacy valve control app is great! Question, typically, how often does the catalytic carbon need to be changed out? I may want to do this for preventive maintenance."

Matrixx infusion

"Installation was a breeze, especially using the installation video. We had extremely high iron content, the water smelled and tasted like metal. Now the water is clean and clear. Taste wonderful. I HIGHLY recommend this system for anyone on well water with iron issues. The black iron filter is in line onlynas a back up. If we ever need to do maintenace or wait on a part we ill be covered. But notice no power is on the unit. Customer service was good but its a bit slow. Information is great."

Ana C. (5/5)

Worked ok for about 8 months

"I have high iron ~12ppm. This system worked ok for about 8 months. Now the filter is clogged with iron and won't backflush properly. No warranty coverage and I was told to buy new media for $300. This is the recommended option and it didn't work long term. Very disappointed and now I'm paying a local company to install a new system."

Shawn (1/5)

Q&A

How much room do I need for this whole system?
The exact space needed depends on which size system is selected, but this system includes two main pieces: the backwashing filter tank and a 15-gallon peroxide solution tank. For planning purposes, we recommend allowing about 3 feet of width and 2 feet of depth, plus enough height clearance for the filter tank and control valve. The filter tanks range from 10" x 54" on the 10 GPM model up to 13" x 54" on the 20 GPM model, and all sizes use a 15-gallon solution tank. You’ll also want to leave extra room around the system for plumbing, the bypass valve, chemical tank access, and future service. A typical mechanical room, basement, garage, or well room location with access to the main water line and a drain is usually sufficient.
What is the size of the injection panel and H2O2 tank?
The panel is 18" W X 19" H The tank is: Diameter: 14.5 inches. Height: 24 inches. Capacity: 15 gallons.
Is the hydrogen peroxide hard on a septic system?
No—when the Matrixx Infusion system is set up correctly, the tiny amount of 7 % hydrogen peroxide it injects is almost completely broken down to water and oxygen in the catalytic‑carbon filter, so what finally reaches your septic tank is effectively peroxide‑free. That trace level is not hard on the septic biology or the drainfield.
I've heard that H2O2 is good for oxidizing, but isn't actually a disinfectant. I have 5 ppm iron and iron-reducing bacteria in my well water and am concerned about biofouling. How does this system combat IRB? I'm also concerned because I'd think carbon media would be a bacteria breeding ground compared to inorganic media like Katalox Light, Pyrolox, etc. Please explain.
Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is primarily an oxidizer, but at the right concentrations, it also functions as a mild disinfectant, especially effective against anaerobic bacteria like iron-reducing bacteria (IRB) and sulfur-reducing bacteria (SRB). It doesn’t have the same residual kill power as chlorine, but it oxidizes biofilms, disrupts bacterial colonies, and releases oxygen, which makes the environment less favorable for anaerobic bacteria. In the Matrixx Infusion System, it’s injected in a controlled dose (often 20–50 ppm) into the water stream ahead of the filtration tank. That dose is enough to oxidize iron and help destroy biofilm-forming bacteria. 🛠️ How does the Matrixx Infusion system address IRB and iron issues? This system uses a combination of: Hydrogen Peroxide Injection – For oxidizing: Dissolved ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) into ferric (Fe³⁺), so it can be filtered out. Sulfides (if present) into elemental sulfur or sulfate. Organic matter and biofilms where IRB/SRB thrive. Catalytic Carbon Filtration Tank – For removing: Oxidized iron and sulfur compounds. Organic odors/tastes and chemical residues. The carbon also provides a surface where residual peroxide can continue to react, improving the clarity and safety of the water. 🤔 Is catalytic carbon a bacteria breeding ground? That’s a common concern — and here's the nuanced answer: Any media, including carbon, can become a breeding ground for bacteria if not properly maintained or if the oxidant dosage is too low. However, in the Matrixx Infusion system, hydrogen peroxide prevents bacterial colonization by keeping the media bed oxidized and oxygen-rich — an environment IRB and SRB can’t thrive in. Compared to Katalox Light or Pyrolox, carbon does have more organic surface area, but: It’s much more versatile in terms of chlorine or peroxide compatibility. It can remove a broader range of organics and tastes/odors. For heavy bacterial issues or higher IRB concentrations, Katalox Light could be a more robust media option — but in systems like the Matrixx Infusion, the peroxide generally keeps the carbon sanitized effectively.
It's interesting that you guys won't answer my question about the disinfectant efficacy of hydrogen peroxide regarding iron-reducing bacteria.
Yes, hydrogen peroxide is effective against iron-reducing bacteria — and it’s actually a common treatment method in well water systems where IRB is present. Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is a strong oxidizer. When introduced into water: It oxidizes ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) to ferric iron (Fe³⁺), making it easier to filter out. More importantly in this context, it also oxidizes and disrupts the biofilm that iron bacteria create — which is where they thrive. It kills or inhibits the growth of both iron bacteria and sulfur bacteria, which are often found together.
