Q&A

What are the dimensions of the tank?
This system includes a 4.5-gallon RO storage tank. The approximate tank size is about 11" diameter x 15" tall, but we recommend allowing a little extra room under the sink for the tubing and connections.
Can you add a remineralization filter to this system?
Yes — you can add a remineralization stage to the Galaxy 5-stage RO. How to do it (most common/best setup): Add the remineralization filter after the RO tank / after the existing final polishing carbon and right before the drinking-water faucet (so it only affects the water you drink at the sink).
Hiw do you replace the membrane? Is it a filter like cartridge?
Good question! The membrane is not one of the 10" filter cartridges on the bottom. It’s a separate “long skinny” cartridge that sits in its own horizontal housing on top of the system. Here’s how you replace it on the Galaxy 5-Stage: Shut everything off Turn off the cold water feed to the RO. Turn off the valve on top of the storage tank. Open the RO faucet to relieve pressure, then close it. Find the membrane housing It’s the long horizontal white tube on top of the three vertical filter housings. You’ll see tubing going in/out of each end. Open the housing Note which tube goes where (take a pic). Disconnect the tube from the end cap you’re going to remove. Unscrew that end cap (usually by hand; occasionally you may need a strap wrench). Remove the old membrane Use clean pliers to grab the plastic stem in the center of the membrane and pull it straight out. It will be a single cylindrical cartridge (spiral-wound membrane), not loose media. Install the new membrane Check the new membrane: one end has two small O-rings on the center stem; that end goes in first. Slide it all the way into the housing until it bottoms out in the fitting at the far end. Make sure the large brine seal (rubber ring near one end of the membrane) ends up toward the end you’re closing. Reassemble & flush Reinstall the end cap and reconnect the tubing. Turn the feed valve back on, then slowly open the tank valve. Leave the RO faucet open and let it run to drain for a bit, then close it and let the tank fill. Discard the first full tank of water after a membrane change.
How often do you need to change the filters?
Every 6-12 months is recommended on the prefilters (depends on quality of feedwater.) The membrane typically last 2-3 years.
