Make High Purity Water with a Deionized Water System
Years ago, high purity water was used only in limited applications. Today, deionized (Dl) and high purity water has become an essential ingredient in hundreds of applications. Just a few include the following:
- Medical offices
- Pharmaceutical companies
- Cosmetics companies
- Large aquariums, fish tanks, and reefkeeping facilities
- Electronics manufacturing plants
- Food processing plants
- Plating and anodizing
- And even the final rinse at the local car wash!
What Is DI Water?
DI water is water that has had all of the ions removed. Ions are charged particles, meaning that they have a positive or negative electrical charge. Many of the impurities in water are dissolved salts, a type of ion. When water is passed through the DI system, the ions are easily removed, leaving clean, pure water.

How Is DI Water Made?
The technology behind this method for creating high purity water is called "deionization, " which simply means that it removes the ions from water. Water deionizers are often combined with other filtering systems, like reverse osmosis and carbon filters, to remove any remaining organic and particulate contaminants.

What's the Difference Between DI and Distilled Water?
There are a number of differences between deionized water and distilled water, although both are types of purified water. A deionizer uses cation and anion resins to remove ions, the most common non-particulate contaminants. Distilled water is boiled, and then the vapor is condensed; the solid contaminants are left behind in the distillation system. Water deionization produces a product that is very similar to distillation.

Water Deionization Systems
At US Water Systems, we offer a number of commercial-grade deionized water systems appropriate for businesses, laboratories, and reefkeeping. Call our experienced Certified Water Specialists for assistance in choosing the right system for your needs.
Water Deionizer Media and Parts
Your deionized water system can't work effectively without clean media, resin cartridges, other DI system parts. We carry several standard sizes of replacement cartridges, mixed bed resin, color indicating resin, and more.
