Water Softener or Water Conditioner?

This is a question we get many times a day.  Water softeners are one of the following: systems that use the ion exchange process with salt; reverse osmosis systems; deionization systems; or distillation systems to produce water that is below 1 grain of hardness per gallon (GPG). In the interests of full disclosure, I am [...]

My Personal Water Story

It’s no surprise that water supplies across the nation, from cities to small towns to rural areas, are affected by contaminates and pollutants. Water will always pose threats. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency has statistics that show the number of cases reported from people who got sick from drinking tap water, as well as [...]

Don’t Be Hassled With Hard Water

Do you wash your clothes and they come out feeling harsh or looking dingy? After you shower, do you feel like there is a film of sticky soap left on your skin? Is your hair starting to look dull and lifeless? Have you dishes lost their shine? If you have experienced one or all of [...]

It’s harder to fool people than it used to be

I am an avid reader of Seth Godin’s Blog  (it’s worth the price of admission) and read this today: Everybody knows everything William Goldman famously pointed out that before Hollywood releases a picture, nobody knows anything about how it’s going to do. It’s such a black art that there are no real clues, yet every [...]

Salt Free Water Softeners & Sodium in Water

Water softeners add some sodium to the water. The amount of sodium a water softener adds to tap water depends on the “hardness” of the water. Hard water contains large amounts of calcium and magnesium. Most water softeners remove the calcium and magnesium and replace them with sodium. The higher the concentration of calcium and magnesium, the more sodium needed to soften the water. Even so, the added sodium doesn’t add up to much.

The Pelican Challenge

At US Water we sell Green Wave Salt Free Water Conditioners.  There is also a company called Pelican that sells what we believe is essentially the same thing, although they call it a “salt-free water softener” even though it does not soften the water or even approach the threshold of what would be considered “soft [...]

Hard Water Causes Plugged Drains

Soap scum is a common source of clogs in bathtub drain systems. While it is not solid, it can solidify after it goes down the drain, gradually building up on your drain’s walls. As it does this, it can also stick to anything else passing through your drain, such as hair, making your other potential clogs into real clogs more quickly.

Water Softeners – Absolutely Not!

Question: The Pelican and the Futura state you will use less soap and detergent with their salt free system compared to not having treated water. Are they lying? At least Pelican states you will use even less soap with a salt based system compared to salt free system. Is the green wave basically the same [...]

Anode Rod

Question of the day: I was looking at purchasing the Fusion Hybrid Professional Grade and was wondering if your customers have seen an increased need to either replace their hot water tank or to increase the anode rod on a regular basis. I have been told that I will need to replace the anode rod [...]
