Water Softener or Water Conditioner?

This is a question we get many times a day.  Water softeners are one of the following: systems that use the ion exchange process with salt; reverse osmosis systems; deionization systems; or distillation systems to produce water that is below 1 grain of hardness per gallon (GPG). In the interests of full disclosure, I am [...]

It’s harder to fool people than it used to be

I am an avid reader of Seth Godin’s Blog  (it’s worth the price of admission) and read this today: Everybody knows everything William Goldman famously pointed out that before Hollywood releases a picture, nobody knows anything about how it’s going to do. It’s such a black art that there are no real clues, yet every [...]

Salt Free Water Softeners & Sodium in Water

Water softeners add some sodium to the water. The amount of sodium a water softener adds to tap water depends on the “hardness” of the water. Hard water contains large amounts of calcium and magnesium. Most water softeners remove the calcium and magnesium and replace them with sodium. Water Softeners Verses Water Conditioners

You need to understand that when I say “water softener,” I am referring to a water treatment system that utilizes ion-exchange resin which is regenerated with salt to take the water to below 1 grain of hardness per gallon.  That is the generally accepted definition of water softening.  Of course, there are always people who [...]
