You might want to re-think that. Maybe you have heard good things about Filox or Pyrolox or for that matter, Oxylox, Adox, Catalox, Birm or Greensand Plus, and  you are thinking about using one of these systems for your water problems.  I would strongly advise you to think again. Iron Bacteria and Sulfur Bacteria

Actually the correct terminology is “Iron Reducing Bacteria” (hereafter called “IRB”) and “Sulfate Reducing Bacteria” (hereafter called “SRB”).  IRB and SRB are troublesome to many people with well water. Chemical-Free Iron and Sulfur Removal

Iron, Sulfur, Manganese and Arsenic

Iron, Sulfur, Manganese and Arsenic

If you treat your water right, you should have no problems. Assuming your pH is close to 7, I would recommend a hydrogen peroxide system. It will oxidize the iron, manganese and sulfur all in one shot and most likely bind the arsenic to the iron in the process and remove (or greatly reduce) it as well. Then a simple water softener and reverse osmosis system should give you exceptionally good water.

Mike wrote: We drilled a new well that has both coliform bacteria and high levels of hydrogen sulfide. I have been looking to install a chlorine feeding pump, retention tank and carbon filter. We have used this system in the past at our old house with mixed results. The hydrogen peroxide system looks interesting. Will [...]
